I currently work at an agricultural-focused advertising agency that publishes two cattle magazines, The Brahman Journal and Santa Gertrudis USA (run by CR Publishing). My responsibilities include web design, upkeep of current websites and editing photos and videos for websites and print pieces. It also includes photographing and videoing selected events, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The fast paced environment of the magazine production has helped me streamline my workflow and become a more efficient and effective employee. The environment at CR Publishing has also helped me to develop an appreciation for constructive criticism and improved the record keeping throughout the development of a project. In my time with the company I’ve been able to push the business to embrace social media as a valuable tool, and move away from ancient web design techniques by creating new, fresh ways to approach projects, including introducing a standard CMS systems into their website upkeep.

(I politely ask that you do not contact my current employment as they are not aware I am looking for employment elsewhere.)
I traveled around the U.S. meeting with designers and advertising firms for six months living out of my car with a fellow designer Gavin Brahman. Though this may sound like a glorified road trip, we took this oppertunity to teach students about design and advertising around the country. We chronicled the journey using social media (Flickr, Twitter, and Facebook), blogging about the positive and negative work experiences we encountered, the new design and print skills we picked up along the way, and the cool designers and firm owners we met. Gavin and I were able to meet with hundreds of designers and get the attention of several large firms who were impressed with our ingenuity. These firms began to pass us work as a way to help fuel our trip. I was featured in Graphic Design USA as a designer to look out for in the future, and we were lucky enough to be interviewed by Process Magazine. This trip forced me to sharpen my photo and video editing skills because of the time sensitive nature of our blog, and taught me how to successfully use social media and our blog to effectively present material. Throughout our travel we were offered sponsorship with Fuel Your Creativity, Firehost, Atomic Dust, One Fast Buffalo, and even the clothing line Desired Hearts.

Always Creative is a small web, print, and identity firm in downtown Bryan, TX. The small size of the company allowed me to be intimately involved with the whole design process – from meeting with clients to finalizing the end result. My responsibilities included everything from small print pieces, to brand identities and website planning. My work background was originally in print design so the opportunity to work with AC helped me push my web design skills to a more professional level. After my time with AC I continued to work with them on a project by project basis as a freelancer.

The Texas A&M Association of Former students is one of the largest of its kind in the nation. I photographed events hosted by the Association, as well as photographing on the field at A&M football games. I was responsible for creating advertising material for the Association and other groups we supported. This included producing class newsletters and creating graphics for videos and the web. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to write and direct a commercial for the TAMU AFS. I assisted in videoing and editing the video which was used for TV and the “Twelfth Man O’ Tron” at Aggie football games.
